Ile d'Orleans is one of Quebec's most concentrated apple-growing regions, with orchards lining the perimeter Chemin Royal for kilometers. For 7-10 days each May, the entire western and southern stretches of the island turn pink and white as Cortland, McIntosh, and Honeycrisp varieties peak together.
The bloom window is brief and weather-dependent. Most years, peak occurs between May 14 and May 21. The visual scale - tens of thousands of flowering trees viewed against the Saint-Lawrence River - is unique in eastern Canada.

Forecast based on 30-year heat unit accumulation average for the Quebec South Shore. A cold April-May (5-7 days late) shifts peak to May 22-24. A warm spring (5-7 days early) shifts peak to May 12-14.
The densest orchard concentration on the island. Drive the 8 km westbound from village center toward Saint-Pierre. Multiple pull-offs and overlook points to the South Shore. La Petite Ecole de l'Ile d'Orleans (6225 Chemin Royal) is on this stretch.
Continuation of the Saint-Laurent stretch with rolling terrain ideal for photography. Cidrerie Bilodeau and Vergers Pedneault are along this route.
Northeast tip of the island. Smaller orchard density but striking views of Mont Sainte-Anne and Cap Tourmente during bloom. Less tourism, ideal for slow drives.
Cross-island route. Mix of orchards, heritage farms, and views of Beaupre Coast. Quieter than Chemin Royal.
South side. Excellent for sunset photography across the river toward Mont Saint-Anne. Combine with stop at Manoir Mauvide-Genest (heritage building).
Hidden interior route through farmland. Less well-known. Mix of apple, pear, and plum orchards.

La Petite Ecole de l'Ile d'Orleans is an 1839 heritage house, known in the village as the “lower school”, now a private vacation rental at 6225 Chemin Royal in Saint-Laurent-de-l'Ile-d'Orleans. The address is on the densest orchard stretch (Chemin Royal Saint-Laurent km 0-8). Drive time to nearest large orchards: 5 minutes. Walk time: 15-20 minutes to closest neighbor orchard.
Old Quebec to Saint-Laurent-de-l'Ile-d'Orleans = 25 minutes by car via Pont de l'Ile.
